According to Mundo Deportivo, Clement Lenglet is close to completing a permanent switch to Atletico Madrid after a strong 2024/25 season on loan from Barcelona.
Although there was no option to buy in his loan deal, the French centre-back impressed Diego Simeone, who is now eager to bring him back. However, Barcelona initially wanted a transfer fee for Lenglet, whose contract runs until 2027 — something Atletico were unwilling to pay.
As a result, both Barcelona and Lenglet are now working towards a mutual contract termination. Talks have reached an advanced stage, and reports suggest an agreement is close. If everything goes smoothly, Lenglet will sign for Atletico Madrid as a free agent.
Lenglet Becomes a Regular Under Simeone
Lenglet rediscovered his form and consistency under Diego Simeone this season, making 34 appearances, including 32 starts. The French defender added stability to Atletico’s defense and also chipped in with three goals and two assists.
Lenglet’s recent start for France against Spain in the Nations League semi-finals highlights just how far he’s come after being pushed to the sidelines at Barcelona.
Atletico Madrid are reportedly ready to offer him a contract similar to what he currently earns — a fixed salary of €3 million, along with potential bonuses of up to €1 million based on performance.
Transfer to Move Forward Soon
Lenglet is currently with the French national team and is expected to feature in the third-place match against Germany this Sunday.
Once his international commitments are over, the plan is for him to complete his move to Atletico Madrid in time to prepare for the upcoming Club World Cup.
This transfer would officially close a difficult chapter in his career at Barcelona. After several challenging seasons, the 29-year-old seems to have finally found stability and a new home in Madrid.
Thanks to his consistency and the trust shown by Simeone, Lenglet has not only secured a key role in a competitive squad but also made his way back into the French national team setup.
