Powerful Earthquake Rocks Kuril Islands, Tsunami Alert in Kamchatka**

A strong earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale struck near Russia’s Kuril Islands on Saturday, triggering a tsunami alert for the Kamchatka Peninsula and surrounding coastal regions. The tremor was felt widely across the Russian Far East, causing concern among residents and prompting emergency action.

According to official reports from Russian seismological agencies, the earthquake’s epicenter was located southeast of the Kuril Islands, at a depth of approximately 80 kilometers beneath the ocean floor. People in Kamchatka and nearby areas reported light to moderate shaking, with some buildings trembling for several seconds.

The Russian Emergency Ministry immediately issued a tsunami alert, urging residents in low-lying coastal zones to move to higher ground. Emergency response teams were deployed to monitor the sea levels and assist in potential evacuations if needed.

No Major Damage Reported, But Authorities Remain on High Alert

So far, there have been no confirmed reports of serious damage or injuries. However, authorities have warned that aftershocks could follow and that the tsunami threat is still being evaluated based on sea-level data.

The situation is also being monitored by international agencies, including Japan’s Meteorological Agency and the U.S. Tsunami Warning Center. No alerts have been issued for Japan or Hawaii at this point.

The Kuril Islands region lies within the Pacific Ring of Fire, a geologically active zone known for frequent and powerful earthquakes. Due to the area’s tectonic complexity, such seismic activity is not unusual but always taken seriously by both Russian and global monitoring agencies.

Residents are advised to stay alert, follow official announcements, avoid rumor-based panic, and only rely on trusted news sources for updates. Emergency kits should be kept ready, and people are urged not to return to coastal areas until authorities confirm it is safe.
